More baby cars should be like the Hyundai Venue.
There absolutely aren't any bad aboriginal cars anymore. Alike the cheapest, aboriginal new cars are all appealing good.
Not about abundant new cars accept a audible personality and character, though, abnormally on the smaller, cheaper end of the spectrum. In that attention the Hyundai Venue -- and abnormally this Denim copy -- is a much-needed animation of beginning air.
The Denim adaptation of Hyundai's littlest crossover is, you estimated it, aggressive by denim jeans. It alone comes in one color, a nice dejected alleged -- delay for it -- Denim. The white roof is absolutely hand-painted, which agency you can't get the Denim with a sunroof (it's an advantage on the Venue SEL). There are a cardinal of added white accents on the exterior, too, including the rear badges, some trim pieces on the bumpers and the caster arches.
But the absolute brilliant of the appearance is the interior. Yes, the denim-inspired leatherette and bolt seats accept a admirable arrangement and a air-conditioned striped pattern, but that's the best arid part. Everything central the Denim is blue, except for the portions of the dashboard and aperture cards that are a nice chrism emphasis color, which is echoed in things like the adverse stitching.
What absolutely makes the Denim different is that all of the artificial pieces are blue, alike genitalia that are usually never color-matched in added cars. Best added vehicles, alike ones with bisected a dozen autogenous blush options, alone use arid atramentous or biscuit plastics. But in the Venue Denim, the window switches are blue, the seatbelt outlets are blue, the carpets are blue, the artificial surrounding the burden breadth and aperture sills is dejected -- I could go on. It makes the Denim feel special, like one big adamant architecture instead of an "oh, let's accord it dejected seats or something" afterthought. Appealing abundant alone the highest-end brands like Rolls-Royce and Bentley do blush analogous to this level, which makes it abnormally hasty to acquisition in a car as bargain as the Venue. I chatted with chief architecture administrator Elizabeth Curran from Hyundai's blush and abstracts administration to apprentice added about the Denim autogenous and what's advancing up in the future, which you can apprehend here.
None of this adamantine artificial feels low-quality, either. The aperture panels, for instance, assume to be molded from one massive allotment of plastic, but they accept a nice atom and the armrest is bedlam with stitched leatherette. All the $.25 that you blow the best accept a nice concrete feel, and knobs and switches move and bang with acceptable actions. The Denim additionally adds a leather-wrapped council caster and shifter, as able-bodied as a centermost armrest that slides ahead and aft.
It's adamantine to abide authoritative Eiffel 65 jokes.
Like the Venue's added trims, the Denim is powered by a artlessly aspirated 1.6-liter inline-four authoritative 121 application and 113 pound-feet of torque. Sure, the Venue could do with added power, but it's ablaze and baby abundant that it still feels active about boondocks and never too apathetic back amalgamation assimilate the highway. Although if you're account this, Hyundai, I wouldn't say no to a turbocharged N archetypal with about 200 horsepower.
The alone chiral best for the Denim is a continuously capricious automatic, as the Venue's six-speed chiral is aloof for the abject SE model. It's a attestation to the CVT's adequacy that I didn't apprehend it was a CVT until I'd already been active the car for a few days. The chiral matches accessory ratios with agent speed, about consistently befitting revs bottomward low to abate agent bombinate and advance efficiency. Like all Venues, the Denim is front-wheel-drive only.
Direct council activity and a well-tuned abeyance accomplish the Venue appealing fun to caster around, and it rides decidedly able-bodied over rougher roads, alike with its 17-inch auto and abbreviate wheelbase. It'll get absolute about by able apprehension at artery speeds and there isn't a lot of complete deadening, but the Denim's six-speaker complete arrangement is absolutely appealing bangin' to accomplish up for alley and annoy noise. Over the advance of my anniversary with the Venue I averaged a bit over 28 afar per gallon in mostly burghal driving, falling abbreviate of the EPA's 30-mpg burghal estimate.
On a few dank Michigan canicule I did get to booty advantage of the Venue's Snow active mode, which adjusts absorption amid the advanced auto for bigger anchor on glossy surfaces. It absolutely does assume to accomplish a apparent difference, abnormally with my Venue actuality shod with Nexen N Priz AH8 all-season tires and not committed snow tires.
The Denim doesn't aloof accompany the different blush scheme, either. As the range-topping trim level, it additionally adds abundant features, some of which you would alone apprehend on higher-end vehicles. LED head- and taillights, acrimonious advanced seats, navigation, adjacency key, push-button start, blind-spot ecology and rear cross-traffic active are all accepted accessories on the Denim. (Most of that being is additionally alternative on the SEL through a brace of packages.)
So abundant blue.
Even the abject $18,470 Venue comes with a ton of stuff. There's an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automated headlights, ability windows and mirrors, lane-keeping assist, a driver-attention adviser and automated emergency braking. The midrange SEL is $20,370 and adds two USB ports, automated altitude control, an auto-up driver's window, and Bluetooth with articulation recognition.
The Denim starts at $23,170, about $5,000 added than the abject SE, which ability assume like a lot for a car as tiny as the Venue. Sure, you could aloof buy a Honda Civic auto for $22,705, like a lot of my accompany appropriate back I brought up the Venue. Or you could get Hyundai's own (and actual great) Kona crossover, the Venue's beyond brother, which is $21,420 in its abject anatomy and is accessible with all-wheel drive.
But there's no added baby car that has fabricated me smile like the Venue Denim. It's absolutely added characterful than absolute competitors such as the Nissan Kicks or the Ford EcoSport. It additionally comes with a ton of features, and it has absolutely beginning architecture capacity begin about boilerplate abroad in the industry. The Hyundai Venue Denim is the affectionate of affordable baby car that the apple deserves added of.
